Dr. Sarah Buckley is living her dream.  After completing her OB/GYN residency, she is now an attending physician with Atlanta Women’s Health Center.  Thanks to her bosses, Drs. Lincoln Montgomery and Cole Ryan, she has finally turned her life around.  However, she still harbors a deep dark secret that only those closest to her know.  Ten years ago, Sarah met the man of her dreams.  He was her first everything, first date, first kiss, first lover.  After running away from him, he has haunted her dreams as she has tried to avoid him and her secret.
Harrison Cooper has it all, or so he tells himself.  All-star third baseman for his beloved hometown Atlanta Braves, multi-million-dollar contracts and women throwing themselves at his feet, but it was the angel who flew away so many years ago that he can’t let go of.  He wears the ring that was to be hers as a reminder of the love he has held onto, but all of the searching in the world has not led him back to her.
The birth of his best friend Rhett’s first child finally leads him back to a chance encounter with the one person he can’t forget or stop loving.  As her usual actions, she runs away leaving Harrison with a stinging jaw and at a loss for words.  Committed to staying with his team until the end, he gambles his future with the new owners for a chance to talk to Dr. Sarah Buckley.
It’s the bottom of the ninth and the bases are loaded for love.  Will they strike out or hit a grand slam, or will the secret Sarah’s been harboring tear them apart forever?
This is the third book in the Doctors of Atlanta Series.  Come back to share the laughs, tears and love with the gang as Marcie and Cole tie the knot and maybe Harrison and the Braves will finally be winners again…

#Review: The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, by Mary Ann Shaffer #books #recommendation #guernsey

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie SocietyThe Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This epistolary novel is a delight to read. It will make you laugh, it will make you cry, it will make you feel as many things as if it were a novel written in a most conventional way. It is so beautifully crafted and the letters are so perfectly woven together that you get a global view of the story by reading what every character has to say at a certain moment. So we have multiple points of view since the letters are written by different characters that help to get the real flavor of each character’s personality.

Set in London and Guernsey right at the end of World War II, writer Juliet Ashton enjoys certain fame thanks to her published books. When she gets a letter from a complete stranger, a man called Dawsey Adams, from Guernsey, who claims to have found her address inside a book about Charles Lamb, Juliet doesn’t know her life as she knows it will radically change. After engaging herself in an epistolary relationship with this man and meeting all the members of the very peculiar Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by exchanging letters with all of them, Juliet’s publisher asks her to write a book about Guernsey during the German occupation. By doing that, Julie’s life will never be the same.

Funny, moving, honest, and surprising, this book will stay with you for quite a while after you actually finish reading it.

#Review: A Jane Austen Daydream, by Scott D. Southard #janeausten #books #jaff

A Jane Austen DaydreamA Jane Austen Daydream by Scott D. Southard
My rating: 1 of 5 stars

There are so many things I want to say about this book that I don’t know where to start. This book made me angrier and angrier the more I read. As a Janeite who has been in love with Jane Austen and her books all her life, I was utterly mad.

First, this book pretends to be a fictionalized biography of Jane Austen. So far, fair enough. But I don’t think that taking Jane Austen’s characters and adapt them to said biography can qualify as that. In my opinion, it qualifies as lacking of originality. Come on! Be original! Create your own characters. The biggest example of this and the biggest flaw of the book is that the author portrays Jane Austen in the same fashion as she portrayed Elizabeth Bennet in Pride and Prejudice; he goes as far as to portray the rest of his family members just as the rest of the Bennets. I was reading the book and I couldn’t stop thinking that I was reading about Lizzy once again. It’s true that Jane Austen had a strong personality, and whoever says that she lived a sad life should read a bit more about her life, but the way she is portrayed in this book is beyond ridiculous. I don’t imagine Jane Austen going all gaga over a man who she barely knows. And the book is not even historically accurate.

Second, the most pretentious thing in the world is to include yourself as a character in the book, and using your name, no less. But the epitome of pretentiousness is to include yourself as the love interest of Jane Austen, who would even defy her family in order to be with him. Hello? Are we going crazy here? I couldn’t believe my eyes, and at that point the only reason why I kept on reading was because I wanted to know what else the author was going to do in order to infuriate me even more.

Overall, the story is not only pretentious but also pedantic, badly written, in need of more editing, and inaccurate. If this book was meant to show admiration for Jane Austen, it was a pathetic effort and I think the author managed to insult her memory instead.

As a Janeite, I feel outraged, that’s for sure.

#Review: Midnight Marriage, by Lucinda Brant #janeausten #books #jaff

Midnight Marriage (Roxton Family Saga, #1)Midnight Marriage by Lucinda Brant
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I love historical romance novels, but I have to say that this one was kind of too ridiculous to be considered as a good book.

The book starts on the premises that a teenage girl is forced to secretly get married to another teenager at midnight. But on the next chapter she is already an adult and doesn’t remember anything about that midnight marriage. Unbelievable.

I also had troubles with the characters. I had a hard time trying to like them. So I didn’t. The main characters are too annoying: Deb is too overdramatic sometimes, and Julian is simply everything I don’t like in a man. Their actions were also kind of historically inaccurate; women going around with men without a chaperone? Unlikely to happen. And the incongruities go on and on. I won’t say more in order to avoid spoilers.

I was also shocked to find typos. It took me forever to finish the book, so I don’t think I will read more books belonging to this series.

Jane Austen Made Me Do It: Original Stories Inspired by Literature's Most Astute Observer of the Human HeartJane Austen Made Me Do It: Original Stories Inspired by Literature’s Most Astute Observer of the Human Heart by Laurel Ann Nattress
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I had been quite looking forward to reading this anthology of stories inspired by Jane Austen and, after reading not even half of the stories, I got really disappointed. Some stories are good. But some others are really bad. So the reason why I am giving a 3-stars rating is because most of the stories don’t deserve more than one or two stars. A few of them were really good, but overall the level of quality of the stories wasn’t too high. I couldn’t finish a couple of stories because they were quite boring. Some others were so ridiculous that I could only roll my eyes all the time. I wouldn’t recommend this anthology to my Janeite friends.

We are very excited to bring you the first standalone in a brand new series from USA TODAY bestseller Sara Ney!

JOCK ROW hits e-readers on MAY 3rd!

Scarlett is always the sensible one: The sober driver. The planner. The one holding your hair back while you’re worshiping the porcelain gods.

Week-after-week, she visits Jock Row with her friends—the universities hottest party scene and breeding ground for student athletes. And if keeping her friends out of trouble, and guys out of their pants, was a sport, she’d be the star athlete.

Being a well known jock-blocker gets her noticed for all the wrong reasons; just like that, she’s banned from Jock Row. NO GUY WANTS A GIRL AROUND WHO KEEPS THEIR JOCK FRIENDS FROM GETTING LAID.

“Rowdy” Wade is the hot shot short-stop for the university’s baseball team—and the unlucky bastard who drew the short straw: keep little Miss Goody Two-Shoes out of the Baseball House.

But week-after-week Scarlett returns, determined to get inside.

Sara Ney is the USA Today Bestselling Author of the How to Date a Douchebag series, and is best known for her sexy, laugh-out-loud New Adult romances.
